Hi all,
I've been reading this forum for quite a while now. It helped me decide to buy me a GX200 (I sold my Sony R1 for it; too heavy), a few weeks ago. With a holiday coming up next week, and the usual question of 'what camera(s) to take?', I've been starting to seriously experiment with it. I have to admit that it took me some time to appreciate the images. I also have a Sigma DP-1 and when used to the image quality of a Foveon image, it takes some time to value the GX200 output. My 3rd camera is the Leica Digilux 2, which doesn't see much use lately, since I really like the compactness of both the Sigma and the Ricoh.
What I definitely like about the GX200:
- Flexibility: the Sigma DP1 shoots brilliant images, but it has its limitations: 28mm fixed lens and I really missed the macro mode. The GX200 makes up for that brilliantly.
- Speed and ease of use. Basically it's a DSLR in terms of handling.
- Its small size. I would prefer it just a tad smaller even, but I guess you cannot have it all I had a Leica C-LUX1 for 2 years, which was really the size I liked. Its IQ doesn't match the GX200's, though.
- RAW mode. I never shoot JPG's. Especially with these small cams, the difference between RAW and JPG is worth the PP time. Besides that, I simply like doing PP.
I hope to share some images in the future; now I'm still in the experimental phase. But I guess the GX200 will make it into my holiday, so after that I hope to have some nice images to share.
Regards,
Mischa
