New CX1 user - first impressions

New Member
Hello

I’m from Portugal and a new CX1 user.

So far I’m loving the camera.

I leave here my first impression of using the camera:

The best:

- Very nice looking camera
- Very nice colours
- The Display is brilliant
- Many functions to play
- Very fast auto-focus
- Very fast continues shooting

The worst:

- ISO noise is noticeable even in low ISO (but not to different from my friend CANON SX200IS). I think that’s something inherent to all PS cameras with big optical zooms)
- Some times the photos have a digital look.

Problems that I notice:

- Install the last firmware version (V1.19) and don’t solve the automatic lens retracting when the battery “dies”.
- Can’t operate the slow shutter limit. I select in the menu shutter speed to 1/2 or 1/8 but this function doesn’t work and the shutter speed is always automatic select by the camera.

Overall I’m taking very nice pictures and enjoying the camera a lot.

Regard’s

Hi Jorge and welcome on board! Thank you for your user opinions regarding the CX1! The problem with not retracting lens is really weird because I never experienced it, no mater how hard I tried to reproduce it. But I know there are several people who reported the same issue. So there is definitely something wrong. I guess there must be something wrong with certain batteries? Maybe some batteries simply reports higher capacity that is the actual state and so the the remaining power is not enough to retract the lens?

Olá Jorge!

Hehehe, It feels good each time I see a Portuguese in the forum :)

I'm sorry but I can't help you with CX1. Where did you buy it?

Força, e boa sorte!

Rui

Hi Jorge! I think odklizec is right about the batteries. I had the same issue with the lens. My CX1 came with and extra battery, and I think that the factory Ricoh battery is having the problem, because when I used the camera with the original battery and firmware 1.19 the lens didn´t retracted at all. I hope it helps.

Thanks for the advices and the welcomes

Yes, I think the problem is with the battery. When I made the test the battery indicator change from green to yellow and I took 1 or 2 more shoots with flash and the camera turned off with the lens open. I hope with the use the battery gets stronger.

Overall I find the camera very unique and special and I’m enjoying a lot using it.

A special “Olá” to Rui Mendes, It’s pleasant to see a Portuguese in this forum.

PS – I bought my camera in the Spanish internet site “aprecio” since the commercial centre “El Corte Ingles” no longer sell Ricoh. I hope that we can find proper Ricoh assistance in Portugal.

Regards

Jorge Rosa

I had the same problem but I haven't updated my firmware yet (haven't touched the sample unit from Ricoh which I then bought because I loved the camera)
