Being the owner of the GXR(A12(not interested in small sensor modules)) I wanted to share a recent experience or revelation if you care.
As I work away, I take my camera with me to keep myself occupied during the evenings by downloading the days shots onto my laptop
and open with a RAW convertor or what have you and process them to my heart's delight.
However, I was disheartened of late whilst looking at my photos (100%+) and found the sharpness less than desirable. I was using
PS CS2 on the laptop and thought that it was this earlier version that was causing my pictures to look less than I previously remembered.
I downloaded SILKYPICS trial version and found this still did not give me the quality I was looking for. My thoughts even strayed to returning
to a Big bulky DSLR from which I escaped when adopting Ricoh.
Upon arrival home I downloaded some RAW and JPEG images onto my MAC and my bottom lip suddenly ascended back up to where it belonged.
The pictures where beautiful, images sharp and contrast not so temperamental. I was happy once more and kissed my GXR
On a side note: I shoot in RAW with B&W Jpeg, so downloaded both, converted my RAW into B&W in PS CS5 (which is on the MAC) to the contrast
etc that I prefer, then downloaded RICOH's version of B&W Jpeg and lo and behold they were almost identical.
To end it all, I have proven to myself if no other, that a sub A$1000 laptop should not be used for processing my pictures but for storing whilst I am away only.
Thanks for listening
