yes I have just strapped a backpack to my belt! cant figure out where to plug in the EVF though!

Congratulations Nick, it looks to be in good 'nick' too. I've always wanted to try one but I suspect at the cost of film, it might be one image a week for me.
Looks like a Toyo perhaps??

yes I promise to post the first photograph I take :) the camera is new, its a Shen Hao, made in china, and it not too expensive, cheaper than a lot of second hand large formats. the idea is that I would not take a photo unless its a keeper as the film IS expensive!

Nick, can paper be loaded into it insted of plates?
Or how about a flatbed scanner. That makes it digital.
Naaaw that defeats the resone to have it.

What a cracking piece of kit, do you mind me asking how much an individual plate/film costs? :)

Phill, I would love a digital back for this camera, oddly enough it works like a flatbed scanner,in that the ccd moves across the image and scans it! but I dont have £10000000000000000000000000000000 to spend...
Loz,
I ordered two Fuji Velvia 100 - 4x5 (5x4) Sheet Film (10 Sheet Pack) = £31.20 (remember velvia?) and to get ONE sheet processed costs £3.00 or so, then you have to get a print made and frame it up... I am going to buy one box of film a month, when the pay cheque comes in!
the basic idea is to use my ricoh to do a photo shoot. I will then know the right time, the right light, and the right composition to take ONE really good shot, which I would take the next day. (as long as the light is right of course) I always feel in a hurry when I am on a photo trip, as the light changes so quickly and I feel like I am missing other shots, so I hope this will really slow me down and make me get images that I can do something with. I'll see. I might not be taken by it at all, in which case the massive advantage with film equipment is I can sell it for the same as I bought it for, or very nearly, so it wouldn't be a disaster, and I can get a GRIII or GXR!

I ordered a lens and lens board, plus two dark slides. they came last friday, but the lens was mounted in the wrong board, and was dented, so I sent it back again :( I hope the camera shop will sort this out quickly, and if so I might just be able to take a photo next week!

Nic, I know how you feel. I too have embraced film again but went with a FSU range finder in 35mm so I can at least put any of what is left over into another 35mm SLR thingie.

Line it up, check ya setting. And shoot. At the end of the day when you pull it off. And I know you will.
Its a big ass print. Old school & big ass.
Good onya. Hundred year old technology is still good today because of one thing. BULK
I do feel sorry for your friends & family.

"Hold on, Dad wants to take a special shot." Twenty min's later. "All setet up now. Ha! Where has everyone gone?"
Anyho it should be great. We down here in Australia dont have access to even getting anything like that processed.

I'm hanging to see some old sckool shots Nic, 1910 style.

Hey ricohnick, great new piece to your camera family. I believe you will enjoy it if your relatives let you to. :)

I know only one man still (although occasionally) shooting with such a beast. He has a massive wooden tripod and a handy box on wheels with a handle for it to be easily mobile with all the equipment. Once getting used into shooting with the camera, I believe you will be able to do a shot in a few minutes. By the way, that guy processes the films and makes photos from them by himself, home, in his dark room.

Peter
