My first fil'um shot since loon pants and long sideburns

How's it feel Pete? Is this something you plan on pursuing like so many others that went this direction?
Did you process and print by yourself? Just wondering what your thinking.....

Hi Don. As film is so expensive to buy and have developed/scanned, I am using it as a means to slow down, consider more. I am a man in a hurry. I am trying to fit 50 years of missed opportunity (why didn't I discover photography before?) and fight against the idea tha I may not be able to do this in years to come (being realistic re my Parkinson's.....my left hand flaps like paper in the wind. My right hand is beginning to take the same route)

I cannot begin to tell you how much I love photography, I want to taste everything. Film does it for me, I'd love to develop my own eventually. Film has such depth to it and I associate film with craftsmanship......so something to savour......to take your time with......like smoke a pipe, lean back, reflect, look with your eyes, your brain and your heart......nail it first time.

Loading a roll of 120 into the mechanism, winding it on, pressing the shutter button that sounds like a million people clap once? Beats slotting in an SD card

I sold 6 framed photo prints last week. The fact that 2 complete strangers like my work enough to have 3 of my pieces of work on each of their walls is stunning to me. The money matters not...other than to feed my photography habit.

So, in short? Yes, I see me doing more.......especially for street. I have my eye on a Leica M6 or even an ancient Leica lllc. Relatively cheap to buy, challenging to use. I am coming out of retirement and go back to work on Monday 8th Oct on a 9mth contract at the BBC. The commute takes me through ripe street subject fodder. I want to set myself a project, ie 1 film per month.....don't waste a single frame if you can help it.

See where I am coming from?

What lens would you put on the front of the M6?

Hi Duane, probably the reasonably priced (for Leica) 35mm summarit f2.5. It's tiny size helps for the coat pocket. Not as fast as a 1.4, but good enough for street? Any light you can throw would be most welcome.
cheers

I certainly do, I have always been this way, even with 35mm film, back in the 80's I seem to recall calculating Kodachrome at 50 cents a frame processed, E6 was a little cheaper. Old habits die hard and I still seem to be this way with digital, trying to nail it first go,

Sounds like you've got a good set-up for B&W portraiture. Nice tones. I think you will enjoy dark room work - I was taught the basics by a good friend in a day and then learnt as I went on. I reduced the costs by buying film in bulk rolls then 'rolling my own' in to the cassettes for the camera - don't know whether this is still a possibility? Paper then becomes an obsession! The best bit is you can lock yourself away in a dark room and take your time - no one dares to disturb you. As you may tell I do miss it.

..............assuming the 35 marries up to the m6? I see there is one coded for M8/M9
Pete, the M6 frame lines will show 28 & 35 very well.
If you could find a 2nd version 35 Cron, you'd be a very happy shooter and save money over the newer 2.5.

I'm glad Don chimed in with his opinion on lens choice. I'm surely not the one to ask for these type of gear choices. However, I'm familiar with his 35mm choice. It just might be hard to find a good used one. I see them going for around $1,200 or more here in the states.

Makes a perfect 50mm FOV on my GXR ; ).
