Not a easy decision and I wish I could vote for more than one photo.
This Vladimir's comment supports my idea about allowing multi-voting in the polls. I'm about to allow 3 votes per voter/contest poll, with an option to change the vote(s). What do you think? Would it make the contests more interesting and dynamic?

I think it's a good idea as it would make the contest more competitive and it is sometimes difficult to just choose one photo as a favorite.

The last 2 competitions, I voted for 3 fotos, I understood multivote is possible.

To change the vote, would help to avoid a misliked picture will win, it will become like a strategic play. Why not?

I've been wondering if the voting could be open to any member, even though she/he may not have submitted an entry. I say this because many members may have looked at the entries, but decided not to submit one of their own and just sit out the contest on the sidelines. The fact that these persons are members, have opinions, and ought to be able to express them, should qualify them to vote (IMHO). I think this will make the contests more fun and allow all members to feel they are participating in forum activities. Ken :!:

Ken, the voting is of course open to any member of this forum. There is no need to submit a contest entry. The only requirement is that the voter must be registered and logged in.

Thanks for the clarification, Pavel. I've been a member for less than two months now, and I got the impression that voting was restricted to only those who submitted entries. Sorry. Ken

Encouraged by this thread (even old ;) ) I didn't give all three votes at once. I began with just 1.
How can I add the other 2 votes? I tried, but wasn't successful.

It's easy. When the voting is open, check as many options as allowed for given poll and press the Submit button. What you probably did was selecting just one option and pressing the "Submit"? I'm afraid, once the vote is cast, it cannot be changed.

Thank you Odklizec! Yes, I conciously did only one vote as I thought, you can even change your votes after. Just misunderstood this thread. ;)

For me personally multivoting didn`t work last time. In the beginning I casted my vote on what turned out to be a winner. But then I saw such a disproportion between the votes and quality of picts ( my personal opinion ) that I decided to give my second vote to one who hasn`t got any vote at all all all. Alas It didn`t work. Perhaps it would be a good idea to allow for 5 votes, thus I could give three votes to nr. 1, two votes to nr.2 and one vote to nr.3. That would much more fair. After all there`s gold, silver and bronze in sport, isn`t there? Stanislaw

Sorry for doubling up. I still stand by my proposition which would make three of them. The firsts is gold, the second.... and so on... blah, blah, blah. Cheers to all Stanislaw.

I don't have a problem with 'just' 3 votes either and I often do not use all my votes any way.

For me, the joy and challenge of the competition is to be set a subject then to go and take the photo. With one exception I've never posted from archive. Consequently, I used only to vote for 'new' pictures which may not always be the best but at least some one has tried rather than trawled an archive for something that happens to fit the theme - recently the majority of submission have been from archive making it difficult for me to want to vote at all.

Using archive pictures is also unfair - it favours those that are long term Ricoh shooters as they will have the biggest archive and therefore the most chance that they can fit a picture to the theme.

I think these are not bad ideas!

I completely agree with Richard as to posting the photographs only taken AFTER start of competition. I did it last two times, I envisioned the Idea based on some visual memories and the went for it. A challenge that`s what`s all about it. Stanislaw

I also agree on 3 votes.

it doesn't matter if you didn't get any votes, it should encourage you to do better the next month.
this is a good way to get better.

and blow- in has a good point on posting from the archive. i did post from my archive myself.
but if you think about it, you are missing the point of a monthly contest.

in 2013 I'm going to do it according the rules. ;)

I think mathematically it make more sense to allow up to 10 votes.
Some will vote 10, some vote 3, others 5 and so on and on.

This spreads and defines more accuratly what the group thinks or feels is the best image.
When I had 3 votes only, often I wanted to lift some of the minor images but could not.

Dont think of this vote process as one person, only you voting, think of how it works as a group...

As Pavel says, "you can, but you don't need to, select up to 10 photos!"
A winner will tend to come out on top, and if there is a draw, Pavel will cast a final ballot.
