Monochrome GR Camera

Would you purchase a B&W only GR with the same specs as the current GR ?

Say they named it the "Daido GR" and it came in a wood box...

What would you pay.

I find that the GR is already fantastic for monochrome/B&W images, in fact it's better at that than colour.

I would likely buy a B&W only GR. I don't care what they call it, and the standard cardboard box is all I want, I'd rather not pay for a box I don't care about.

I would expect to pay some extra, likely to cover development costs.
How much? As little extra as possible. 10% more ? Not sure.

I also do agree the BW images from the existing GR are very good.
I'd appreciate even more tonal response and DR but none of this stops me using my GR as is.

Put me on the list Mike. Weatherproofing and cordless remote both of shutter and small handheld flash would be nice too. And instead of that silly flash put a tiny LCD left of
hot shoe, just to check framing or basic camera settings when shooting with main LCD off. And contact communicatioon between Bayonet mounted 21 converter and the camera through GH-3 adapter  , which I use when it rain and blows shit and grit. That contact on camera body could switch the button on/off with lens cap on, a nice detail from GRD IV, not carried to GR.
Then I`d be happy and would`t mind the price.Stanislaw.
p.s. All these little things that should be in original GR, dammit!

The GR is a superb camera but I would not buy a B&W only GR, I am more than happy with the B&W images I can get from my GR especially when using Nik Silver Efex Pro2 for converting.

Weatherproofing would be more welcome change than BW only.
If BW only version would have much higher ISO, then, well, it would most likely lead me to places so dark, then the chance of getting out of them would be smaller than now. Tempting opportunities, but... i think i'm getting too old for this ;-)

Weatherproofing is a request that comes up often.
Another idea is IF the thickness of the GR didn't increase a non telescoping lens would be welcome.
I have this with my Sigma DP2 Merrill and it reduces time for camera to be ready on power up.
Also the lack of air pumping might resolve the dust issue that some report. Perhaps the sealing will as well.

Tim, GH-3 adapter with or without filter solves the problem. With GH-3 on, the thickness of GR is the same as extended lens plus 49mm protection filter screwed on.
Put a transprent plastic bag sealed with tight rubber band round GH-3 and you have set-up that can take a monsoon downpour. Sizelike the thickness would be the same as Merrils, I guess.
Still I would LOVE if somebody came out with COMPACT underwater housing with option to fit existing wide adapter or expected fish-eye one.
p.s. not a underwater monster housing capable for 100m, 5m would be enough, just to swim with it or taking a waterfall shower on.

Even though I'm more interested in B&W and convert a lot of my photos to B&W, I wouldn't get a monochrome GR, because I prefer to carry just the camera and simulate the effect of B&W lens filters in post-processing, rather than have to also carry around (and fit and use) the GH-3 filter adapter and several filters.

I think the idea is that IF the whole sensor is a dedicated APS-C B/W sensor you will yield a more detailed B/W image from a dedicated sensor.
So for the same size camera package you will have a substantial IQ improvement IF you take B/W images exclusively.
Low light performance and dynamic range will improve also. No need at all for a AA filter on a B/W only sensor either. So sharpness will improve.

Photographers who convert everything to B/W are losing IQ with a traditional Bayer sensor.
Could you say that a APS-C B/W sensor would work as well as a FF colour sensor converted to B/W ?? ... maybe, probably.
I have to agree that we have a lot of information to work with already.

The thing about a B/W GR is that the GR is so small it would be no hassle for me to carry both a colour and B/W version. :D

There's an astonishing amount of detail there already. For example, here's a photo of some lichen on a rock that I took yesterday with the GR (the jpg straight out of the camera, I haven't played around with the raw yet). The full image reduced to ΒΌ size and a 100% crop from the area outlined on the full image:
