My (long gone) Caplio R5 managed to shoot 3 frames-per-second at full resolution until the card was full, a mighty impressive number if I may add. Do newer models in the series manage to keep the same rate?

Thanks,
Prog.

I don't have R8 with me and R10 did not arrive yet. But I just tried R7, which gave me 2.3 fps.

2.3 fps is quite good, but not as impressive as the 3.0 fps of the R5. What memory card did you use?

Prog.

2GB Panasonic SDHC Class 6, which is a very fast card. Pity I still don't have R8 with me so I cannot test it for you. Who knows? Maybe it's faster than R7? But on the other hand, R8 needs to process 10MP file instead of 7MP from R5, so it may cause an additional slowdown?

Hi Prog,

I just did a R8 continuous mode test. R8 seems to be even slower. It takes first 4 photos at 2fps and then continues at 1.25fps speed. I'm curious if there is a difference between R8 and R10?

I think the R10 has the same internals as the R8, so not much hope there. It's such a shame to see Ricoh giving up one unique-advantage after another :x

Not exactly Prog. The R10 internals must be at least slightly different, due to addition of orientation sensor. So there may be some other differences? We will see ;)

EDIT: There is also a different sensor used in R10! R8 ISO range starts at ISO80, while R10 starts at ISO64. It seems to me that it's an indication of more changes than just added orientation sensor, additional button and different grip.

Aloha,

Hope to have my R10 midweek, and hope to be able to post some information, though not up to quality enjoyed here. jonbon

I just did R10 continuous speed test and the results are pretty similar to R8 results. First 4 shots are taken at 2.2fps, all subsequent photos are taken at 1.36fps. Tested with the same Panasonic SDHC Class 6 card. The results may slightly differ with different in-camera image processing settings.

Thanks for doing this test Pavel.

I can't say I'm disappointed, as I wasn't expecting much. It is a shame though that Ricoh doesn't hold on to its unique selling propositions. The more the R-series progresses, the more difficult it is for me to figure out Ricoh's design goals.
