This thing is hardly 4cm long. You can try to imagine how "easy" it is to get the right angle of view and focus using only viewfinder with a DSLR in stretched hands on the edge of a pond (unwilling to get wet feet) with this shallow DOF quickly enough until the subject decides to set off and yet slowly enough to not scare it too early. I admire all macro insect shooters working with "wild" living creatures. But the fun is worth it (me thinks). ;)

Thanks for your encouragement, Sergey. :) I suspect the conditions were as they should be expected, i.e. quite normal for macro photography. Though I heard there are photographers using formaldehyde or glue or the like...

Thank you David for stopping by. As about your inquiry, not sure but I guess approximately half a metre having 105mm APSC macro (circa 160mm FF equivalent) put on.

Hi Peter,
I admired this shot when you first posted it, but did not have time 'til now to log-on...very nice shot though!
The shallow depth of focus and the neutral green background works extremely well...
