Lightroom Techniques..... or Not?

Hi All,

I require some expert pointers please....

Is it possible to achieve this sort of effect http://ricohforum.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=256 (where a colour photo is converted to B&W except for one or two elements which retain the colour of the original image) using Lightroom2, or is LR more of a archiving, developing/processing, slideshow, exporting tool? (I've just downloaded the 30 day trial).

Is it a case of use LR to process and then another package Photoshop or similar to make these sort of changes?

Excuse my ignorance, but I'm new to the computer side of digital photograhy, other than some simple croping and pre-set adjustments.

Any comments appreciated.

I had a look at the EXIF info on this image and it was edited in Photoshop CS for Windows. You could have a look around the Internet for techniques on how to do this in Photoshop, and then you may be able to find a way in LR? :?

Certainly you can move an image from one editor to another to continue processing but I would suggest saving in a compatible format like TIFF as you transfer the file so that you don't lose any quality on the way. Save out to jpg as the last step.

Hi guys,

I don't have LR, but I know it's possible to do selective desaturation in it. All you need is to play with saturation/intensity sliders in HSL menu. It's not ideal, but it works with some files and colors. The key of success is not to have too much of the same color or its shades in the picture ;)
