]Hello everybody. I looks like our site is a bit dormant and speaking for myself all I can say is MEA CULPA. No exciting news on Ricoh behalf giving us some food for thoughts. Well there`s a mystical Pentax Z looming in the shadows and fancy Theta globaling the scene. All that`s left for us Ricoh boys, is using what we have. Of coursie I`m not talking about GR users, that`s still hot stuff for some including poor me. See, I have a dilemma needing a third GXR body. I have two of them, one for A28 another for A50. the third one would take m-unit with either something longer then A50 or shorter then A28 , thus being free of swapping the units. But if I got miself a GR which would take care of 28, then the two bodies which I already have would take care of the rest. Decisions, decisions.
Enough of shop talk, here are some picts. Being essentially black and white guy, I breake the rule and include on in gaudy and nast color. Stanislaw

Nice B&W set Stanislaw but the colour! scary stuff especially the knife.

Tell me why do you want a GR? Is it to do with a better high ISO performance than your A12 28? It can hardly be portability if you are contemplating 3 bodies to carry!?? Or do you just want something new? If it were me I'd buy the 3rd GXR body and a GRD4 for less than the GR. Then you've got high IQ in a similar system when you need it and a very neat little camera for those occasions when you don't plan to take pictures but need a camera 'just in case'. In many ways I think the GRD4 suits the street better than the GR (I'm sure I'll get hate mail for saying this) and has most of the 'cool' features plus hybrid autofocus and image stabilization. Sure the IQ will not be as good as the GR but if you want a nice grainy B&W who cares?

I'm putting on my body armour and digging a fox hole.

Richard

Hi Riccadonna really like the one with the horses head on ,looks like a scene from midsummer nights dream (Bottoms head transformed by Puck into a donkey) :)

You won't from some. There are those who agree for 4 is better for street.
I can't say, In the end my requirements don't exceed what either the 4 or GR can do.

Don't worry I will join you in the fox hole. :D

I'm not sure who is more scary, horseman or the gal.
The last pic is very sharp!

Richard,
although I`m on GR since August last year, fully agree with you.
The biggest benefit (at least for me) in GR is better high ISO performance. I`m night animal so I value it. Other than that, I prefer GRDIV.
So, if needed, we can share a watch once in your fox hole ;-)

My finances have dictated a solution for me : wait patiently for a serious WR "gale-proof" (your copyright, Stanislaw ;) ) APS-C compact. Fuji has just come out with a WR DSLR, I hope this is a sign that the WR niche is still profitable, and that the next logical step is a professional WR fixed lens compact.

Your photos always have an interesting variety, and something subtle about them. #2 and 3 had me thinking of Magritte.

Richard - I`m not that sure myself. As a matter of fact I tried to find out about GRs ISO advantage over A28.
I conducted a little test some time ago at my local dealer and advantage seems to be one to two stops. Would be interesting if somebody did a serious comp between the two.
The pict with horsehead is taken on 3200ISO and for B/W is O.K. with me.
As to portability, I usually carry two cameras when I go light.
A28 in the big pocket or in the right hand, A50 on my shoulder or other way around .
Still pocketable but more extended outfit would be: A28 in the hand, GXR A12 unit with one of five lenses on shoulder , remaining lenses ( 15, 50 , 90, ) divided in two mini vest pockets.
Question of third body comes in question when I go full size which means a small shoulder messanger bag ( 30x20x10 ) which holds beside either A50 or A28 ( other one in hand), four lenses ( 15, 50, 90, 135 ), A12 m-unit , foldable mini tripod, little flash, batteries, cords, ND filter, EVF finder.
In this configuration, A12 unit which resides in the bag with one of the lenses might have a body attached to it, there`s still place for it in the bag and I would have shot ready outfit with f.x 90 or 135 on. You`re right, a new GXR body is some 40% of GR price. The question is, that it`s discountinued by Ricoh, which could mean they`ll come with a new body or stop it all together. Well, I`ll wait a while and see, meanwhile more pictures. Stanislaw

Very interesting and contrasting series Stanislaw. Hard to pick a favourite though the horses head certainly made me look twice! ;) :?
All the best,
Andy
