Icy shots

Visiting Moravia (the eastern part of the Czech Republic) last weekend, there was a lot of ice on trees, fences, hedges, simply everywhere to be seen instead of snow. Some of the trees were badly injured, their tops were broken and fallen to the ground from the enormous load of ice on the branches. It was quite an adrenaline to drive under the trees when the wind was blowing and the ice blocks were falling to the road. You can imagine how "cool" it was.

A Weight of Ice (notice the volume of the ice in comparison with the thickness of the tiny branch)

The fence has that medieval 'chainmail' look about it...astounding! And well taken I should also add! :)

Wow, you could just snap an icicle of a tree & lick it. Is this caused by rain at below -0º ?
That last photograph looks like a glass sculpture.

Peter, I'm always amazed by ice on nature. Maybe because I never see like this.

So I like all three photos very much, altough I'de like to understand how's the ice forms on that last tree? It goes up?

Thank you all.

I suppose you are right. The temperature high in the sky must have been above zero ºC, so it rained, while the temperature near the ground quite below zero. What was really unusual in that particular location is the amount of the ice... incredibly thick rods without usual icicles hanging down. Also the snow on the ground had hard icy shell on it so it was possible to walk over fields without falling in what was handy. :)

I prefer #1 for the more artistic look, its something I don't see everyday or even every decade. Its showing the rare for me!
