Hi all

My name is Jonathan and I'm from Long Eaton in the UK (Long Eaton is near to Nottingham). I'm 31 and it may surprise you to know this but the camera that I brought a couple of days ago (GR Digital) is the very first camera I have owned.

After alot of research I was very close to buying the Panason LX3 as it seemed to be the one that would match my style of shooting best. But for some unknown reason I felt nothing towards it?

Two days later I brought a GR Digital off Ebay. I'm looking for to working within it's restrictions as well as it's creative options. It's a strange to say but if I was a camera I think this is what I would be lol :D

I've also started a Flickr account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/35963391@N08/?content=

Thanks

J

Welcome Jonathan, its is quite surprising that this is your first camera, I can only guess that you must have at least had access and used one before?

The GR is a great little camera its ergonomically very good to use IHMO. I liked your first images!!

Hi Joose and welcome here! I can understand why you choose GRD over any other camera. There is something unexplainable about the GRD look and feel ;) When the GRDI has been introduced, I immediately fell in love. But I thought it's somewhat expensive for a compact camera. I then bought DSLR but after a year or so, I finally gave it up and now I would not swap it for anything else than new model ;)

I like the color tint of your photos! But I'm not quite sure about the softened background. I mean, it usually works great, but here I see it's blurred artificially. But maybe I need to look at them one more time?

thelps - Yes I've had access to may cameras over the years for pleasure and for my work. I think the reason I've never bought one before is because I've always had the urge to wait for 'the next best thing' and have ended up buying nothing. I think that’s why the GR Digital has so much appeal to me now as I like the restrictions (I'm talking about the lack of zoom here) so that it's a non issue in regards wanting to improve it further.

odklizec - Your right in that the GRD has a strange appeal that is lacking (to me anyway) over cameras such as the Canon G10. What helped swing it a lot was when I used camera finder in Flickr and saw the amazing photos people were producing with it.

Regarding the softened backgrounds, they are artificial but I love them :) At work I use Photoshop a lot and am very careful to produce work that has no trace of what 'improvements' I've done via post production. With this camera I'm restricting myself purposely to using Picasa and Picnik as I want to enjoy photography again rather than spending hours producing ‘perfect’ images. I also enjoy (in general) producing surprising/wonderful effects from very limited tools, I get more satisfaction from that than using the latest and greatest software  It’s a little like the people who produce 8 bit versions of songs on Youtube, I totally get the enjoyment they must get from that.

Anyway, I’m not being defensive here ;) just enjoying the camera

Thanks for the replies
