Hi all,

I am long time Ricoh GRD-IV user. Sadly I have just sold that camera but happily, the new Ricoh GR is inbound and I am excited beyond belief.

I live in the far north of Scotland which means I usually end up taking pics of extreme weather events!

Loving this forum and looking forward to contributing when I can.

My flickr feed features loads of Ricoh GRD-IV pics and can be viewed on

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum Brian. You are going to love your GR. I went from an original GRD to a GR and the GR is everything I love about Ricoh a totally useable camera with great speed and terrific IQ.

Hi and welcome,

so many great images in your photostream.
I jumped to the GRD thread and had a good look.
I suspect Blowin will like the "clinker"

Curious as the the name. Subseasniper?

Welcome from me too.

I guess you are somewhere near Thurso. Tim was right that I'd love 'clinker' - not just for the boat but also for the misleading simplicity of the capture. I'll be interested to hear what you think about the jump from the GRD4 to the GR.

Richard

Another hello!
Your shots all look very familiar, partly because I have often worked in your area (Wick, Thurso, Seater, Castletown, Wester...) but also because I recall the Trinkie from my teenage years when I had a girlfriend in Wick. I guess the Ricoh world is not so big... 8-)
Looking forward to seeing your GR output as one who has not yet been tempted! ;)
Andy

Guys,

thanks for all the positive replies and for looking through my flickr page. The name subseasniper has stuck to me for years, I used to do a lot of spearfishing around Wick and this kind of stuck out.

Wiener, the Trinkie is awesome, I rock climb there in the summer, check this pic out to see if you remember this wall

I should have the GR tomorrow and will give it a good shakedown, pics to follow.

Thanks guys, I am on a lot of forums but this is the best welcome I have received to date.

If any of you are ever passing Wick (unlikely, I know) give me a shout and we can hook up.

I do remember this rock face though I was not really a climber even back then...I do occasionally still work in the north of Scotland, so you never know about the 'hook up'!
Just sorting through my archive at the moment and came across this one labelled 'Casteltown'.
With the sea, sun, sand, one would wonder where the hell the beach umbrellas are...guess you know the answer to that though! ;)
Andy
PS this taken with a Ricoh GRV1.

Hello Brian and welcome here!
Your Flickr album is beautiful - you have a great feel for the sea.

Quester - thanks for looking through my flickr stream. It's a bit hard to escape from the sea here, especially with the weather we have had recently.

Wiener - Castletown does have a cool little harbour, I grew up in Ackergill. Here is a pic of the harbour there

I may be up your way in late April...a friend & I are planning to sail to Orkney and if it comes off (we need the right weather - no strong easterlies) we'd almost certainly night stop at Wick - I'll post if itgoes ahead.

Distillery and sea - interesting hobbies, subseasniper, though combined might become dangerous. :) Your flickr set is really good. I enjoyed it much. Thanks for sharing and do not hesitate to post your work here, too.

Peter

Thanks for all the positive feedback. I took my new Ricoh GR out for a proper shakedown today, doing my thing at a local distillery, went uber lightweight, no SLR.

I will post results in a thread in the Ricoh GR section.

Thanks.
