Hello from Ireland

I am based in Ireland and have been a keen photographer for many years - mixture of analogue and digital perhaps a 50/50 mix. I bought my first digital camera Olympus 2020-Z in 1999 which was a 2MP sensor and I think I paid about £900 (before we joined the Euro) I mostly use my Canon 7D on prime lenses and I do muscle toning with my Mamiya RB67 Pro SD medium format.

I have a small Canon point and shoot pocket camera that does a fine job however I have been interested in the Ricoh for a while and that new GR is a very nice piece of kit. I seldom buy new and like to wait until prices drop (unlike dare I say it Leica) and I am considering the GRX P10 - with a possible upgrade to the screw mount lens adapter at a later stage. I like the modular design of that camera and it seems to have a quality build to it. My RB67 is a modular medium format mechanical beast and it delivers one hell of a result when used correctly, I am forever on a learning curve with that tank.

I enjoy forums and they are hives of activity for people sharing the same interest and I would also try and source cameras or lenses in forums where most members would look after their investment - rather then take a chance on EBAY.

I am looking for a GRX P10 and I am thinking about buying from a dealer in Japan on EBAY.. he has 100% feedback and he seems very genuine

Any advice or recommendations ?

I look forward to sharing my Ricoh GRX experiences on this forum

Regards

Paul

Hello Paul and welcome to the forum. If you look on the right hand side of the Portal Page you will see a series of links. I can recommend Gerd's pages to learm more about the GXR (try this link: http://www.waloszek.de/gxr_e.php).

Most (but not all) GXR users pefer the 'A' series modules. I have a S10 which I was really keen on when I bought it but these days I find I use the A12 28 and A12 50 a lot more. The GR is certainly a nice piece of kit but if you don't mind, or even prefer, small sensor cameras I think the GRD4 takes a lot of beating. It has several features such as hybrid autofocus and image stabilization that you won't find on the GR and some clever in camera processing that you won't find on the GXR.

Like you I tend to buy when a model is being discontinued or 2nd hand. This firm (in Scotland) is worth keeping an eye on:

Hi Paul,
I would go along with Richard and suggest giving Ffordes a try...and they seem to have a couple of GXR + P10s at the moment. Like Richard though, you may find the P10 a bit of a compromise: rather large bulk v's not always so fantastic quality sometimes...seemed to be f-stop dependant, the quality...
Looking forward to seeing some pictures from you, regardless of camera!
