Hi to all,
I am glad to find this community as I feel a bit like an exotic animal in my area with a Ricoh...
I have purchased Ricoh GX-8 some years ago as my first digital camera. My reasons were:
-- 28 mm eq. at wide end
-- very fast shutter response
-- hyperfocal mode ("snap"). (Really a golden feature, both for indoor candid photography and for street photo.)
-- A+M modes
-- metal body
-- AA batteries
-- unobtrusive look
-- extensibility (adaptor)
-- reasonable amount of noise reduction allows good postprocessing (no "watercolor" images)
Bonus: good macro capability (although I am not so keen on macro), raw capability (although I have used it very rarely) and interval shooting...
I have soon purchased an adaptor, wide angle add-on lens, and the GV-1 viewfinder, which is useful at 28 mm and with some reserve even with the add-on lens (22 mm eq.).
My choice proved as good for my use. I still use it as a "family shooter", although for my other purposes I now have the GRD1 (I like the lens is much more rectilinear and the whole package is even smaller than the GX8 but still allowing proper hold. As 95 percent of my shots with GX8 was done at the wide end, I do not regret the zoom.)
With regards,
Martin
