Though I would join in to ask a few questions
before I dip my toe in GRD water.
A camera I have been looking at for far to long.
Off to work now !
Catch you all later. Cheers.

Depending on how warm you like your water....the GRD temperature could be just right for you!.. :D
Welcome here Ripbab. ;)

Drove through a sunny Cumbria yesterday....makes a change that it's the rest of England that's under water! Welcome to the forum....I own a GRD & GRD IV (and have owned a GRD II) and am very happy to try to answer questions. They are brilliant little cameras.

Hi Ripbab and welcome here! I'm sure you will love the GRD! Once GRD - always GRD! ;) Enjoy your new toy and our little community of people loving their "copiers" that can actually make photos! :)

Well not exactly an owner of a GRD yet.
At the moment I am running a Panasonic G3
Outfit. It's nice, but it's still a system camera
And that means lenses, and to be honest it's
all to easy to get snowed under with gear.
So I find myself with 1 kit zoom a 14 a 20
A manual om50 and om135. Even though it's
a small camera I still can't get it in my pocket.
I've been considering the GRD 3 and 4 because
I feel (well hope) it may get me back into photography
rather than taking snaps ,in between deciding
What lens to stick on !
I do like the look of the b&w images I have
seen created with these cameras.
The last lot of pictures I came across were taken
through the window of a train , you could see his reflection.
But it didn't seem to matter. And I looked at
them again ( they have something ). I've been using
my G3 all week with the 14 mm to see if I can
live with one lens length . I can !
The only downside for me at the moment is
that I favour Aperture3 for editing GRD raw files
are not supported ! And I really can't get my head
around silkypix (yuk)
Or are the ooc jpegs that good I could forget
about raw ?
The big wow for me though is I could keep
the GRD with me at all times and not be
unzipping bags .

Hello and "Welcome" Rip :D ... Has been many years since i last visited Cumbria with it's most beautiful lakes and mountains so would enjoy much to see them again - through your new GRD 8-) or perhaps the Panasonic ;)

Regards Kort .

:)

HI and welcome. Its a good time to buy a GRD as the IV is now out and the GRD III is quite inexpensive. The IV is the one to get if you have the $$'s.

I think quite a few of us have been through a similar photographic journey. I feel sure that you would enjoy either the GRD 3 or 4 and the jpegs are very good (in my opinion). You can do some in camera processing using image settings and if this might be important to you, the 4 has more options built in. Personally I would also recommend the GV-2 optical view finder for that back to roots experience.

Hello Ripbab, and welcome to the forum. I don't own a GRD, but it seems that everyone who does has high praise for it. I believe that having a camera with you that you feel comfortable with at all times, helps to make the photographic experience more enjoyable.

Well , I've done it now ! Cant afford it but I've just ordered a GRD4.
Its also the first time I have not traded in my old gear to pay for it. For a start i really do like my Panasonic G3 + primes.
I am looking forward to having my first Ricoh.
This morning i was out with my G3 and 14mm trying to recreate the GRD contrasty b&w images. I failed. So i thought i had
better bite the bullet and buy one.

Happy days

Hi Ripbab, and welcome to this great forum. I think you did the right thing and now you will see that your (photographic) life will be positively impacted by the IV... I own a GRDIII and I simply love this camera, having it always with me... My Nikon D200 is getting full of webs :) . I use Aperture 3 when at home and I'm quite sure I worked on some RAWs from the GRDIII, in any case I find it's jpegs very good, so in practice I always shoot in this way and save a lot of space on my disks... Traveling a lot and being far from home for long time I also use a iPad to pp my shots, in particular Snapseed and Autostich... Very simple and cheap and you can see the results in my posts ;) .
So enjoy your GRD IV and show us your pictures, we will enjoy them!

Hi Garry,

Great to hear that you've taken the GRD4 plunge. I'll look forward to some contrasty B & W. Fire away with questions too.

Richard

It arrived this morning. By the time i got hom it was chucking it down.
Charged the battery, read the book, made some settings.
Took a few pictures.
I have a lot to get my head around, but its looking all good :D

Oh yeah, A picture too.

That's a good start. I'm using B&W with the contrast wound right-up and sharpness one notch above the middle....I'm liking the results - which settings are you using?

A poster of your dog on the front gate should deter casual callers although I expect he (?) is quite small!

A belated welcome from me Ripbab! Hope you're enjoying it here so far ;) .
