Just want to introduce myself to the forum.
My initials are actually GRK so I couldn't resist the user name LOL!
My Ricoh GR experience was born from my need of a travel camera earlier this year when I took my first ever overseas trip. My regular gear was way too heavy and bulky to even consider taking along and I knew I would regret simply using my cell phone for picture taking. I did some research and was intrigued by the GR's size, reported image quality (a big deal from me) and it's fixed prime lens (I've been shooting with SLR primes for many years and rarely use zoom lenses). That said I also rarely shoot wider than 35mm full frame and I nearly always use my DSLR's optical viewfinder except when switching to liveview for macro work, so the GR's lack of built in viewfinder was a bit of a leap for me. When I bought the GR I fully expected to use it for the duration of my trip and then tuck it away and return to my regular kit when I got home. Boy was I ever wrong! I've been into photography for many years now (well over 30) and this little camera came out of nowhere and completely reignited my passion for photography! I've shot more stills in the past few months then in the past decade. I discovered the world of street photography and absolutely love it. I've learned how to handle the 28mm's wider field of view and to see the world that way. I've learned to work minimalistly, editing my DNG's on my smartphone. In short, the GR has changed my entire approach to photography in just a few short months.
Amazing little camera!

Hi GRK,

Welcome to GRUF

I see similarities to my GR experience in your great introduction.

I just returned from a very long vacation. I took the GR3 and GR3x with me and one FF camera with 2 lenses. Surprisingly 98% of all photos during this trip were made with the two GRs.

I still have to look at all photos on a bigger screen before making conclusions or judgements, but the high percentage speaks already for itself.

Thanks for the reply. Hope you had a great vacation (sounds like you did).
I like that you have both GRs and am very interested to know how many out of the 98% went to the 28 and how many to the 40.
I really struggled with which camera to buy initially as again I rarely shot wider than 35mm FF. I think for travel purposes I made the right choice.
Well, I have news ... since I joined this forum I have picked up the GR3X too! I've just been so blown away by the image rendering and the form factor of the GR3 (plus I had purchased so many extra batteries) that I decided to try the 40mm. Well as you would know, I have not been disappointed. Unfortunately I had to buy the GA-2 as I leave the adapters on the cameras most of the time to protect from dust and rain and ofcourse to mount filters. So it adds up :(.
What accessories do you use?
Take care

Hi GRK,

congratulations to your "double-win". You can never have too many GRs Z04 Carrot

During my trip over 4 weeks, it was splitted around 50/50 between Ricoh GR3 and Ricoh GR3x. Normally I prefer 40mm over 28mm. I find it easier to compose with 40mm and get a "message" to the viewer. But depending on the situation, 28mm is also for me better.

This is a very individual decision. Everybody has different preferences. There is no right and wrong. Same as with ILC, you basically need both focal lenghts. Sometimes you can easier capture images with 28mm sometimes the other way around. Dending on your subject and what you want to achieve.

We can open later on a thread with some comparisons in the gear section. I am sure that many people are interested in this kind of discussion. But I do not have a lot of hope for those, who want to stick with one GR only. Sooner or later you get infected and want to have both FL.

What accessories do you use?

Actually nothing. I do still have fom my old GR1 the adapter for the Ricoh wideangle lens and the lens itself. But I never used it really on my GR1. So since I sold the GR1, there is no use for it anymore (does not work with GR3 as far as I know).
