Happy with my GX200's tone-mapped gigapan

Interesting indeed. Do you use the software advertised on the Gigapan site? If so, which one?

I use a variety of programs to stitch, depending on whether I used the gigapan mechanism, size of panorma etc. In the above two exampls, I did not use the gigapan machine, just shot using a tripod, and used Kolor Autopano Giga to stitch. Its the most versatile but also most expensive stitching program at the moment. But you can get similar results with other stitching programs. The main trick is to shoot bracketed images locked on manual exposure, and then process with a tone-mapping program like Photomatix or Artizen, then stitch. There are a few free tone-mapping programs which you can experiment with. BTW here is another recent effort, where I did use the Gigapan robotic head and a TC-1 teleconverter, then used Photomatix: http://gigapan.com/gigapans/121079

Those perspectives are very appealing and well done! The detail is very well preserved, and it makes for interesting searching in the content of the photos. Almost on the borderline of a stills and a movie...
