that blows me out of the water
I've seen my next camera :ugeek:
If that is true, i would'nt by the GRDIII because i have to save my money for a GZ-1 & lenses
Calm down guys Honestly, I don't know any details about upcoming "big" Ricoh. But I think this one is a fake or at least someones wild dream (maybe even wet dream? . This looks like clear photoshop to me? And it tells me several important things.
If it's a picture (even design draft) of a real product, then it's definitely based of small sensor. That would be a very bad move from Ricoh! No matter how good is new generation of small sensors, they cannot beat the actual 4/3 or APSC sensors. And I'm sorry to say this, the only way how can Ricoh possibly join the battle for best "pocketable" or "nearly-pocketable" camera, is to introduce something with large sensor. No matter if 4/3, or APSC. In my opinion, 2/3" is possibly the lowest competitive size.
In any case, even the 2/3 sensor would require significantly larger body, especially with combination or interchangeable lens mechanism. Look at it like that. A very minor increase of GRDIII sensor and slightly faster lens caused increase of GRDIII body in all three dimensions for about 0.5-1.9mm! These numbers may sound minor, but it was also the increase of sensor/lens brightness! 4/3 or even APSC with interchangeable lens mechanism would require much bigger body. At least if we don't want wide lenses starting at F4 or more (see DP1).
So in my opinion, this is a clear fake or just someone's interpretation of ideal camera. But definitely not a real product. And I would be clearly surprised to see that Ricoh just slightly redesign GX body to add lens mount and few more buttons or top LCD. Nono guys, I personally expect much more from completely new Ricoh camera. But of course, I can be wrong
I have been looking at the image of the camera provided.
Firstly, the editorial talks about a slightly modified GRD body, when quite obviously, the body in the image is from GX200!
Secondly, unless they have come up with some serious new technology, then surely m4/3 will be the way to go, and this requires bigger size does it not?
I figured it would be fake coming from a single source. HOWEVER, it seems that the large sensor/small body is the way of the future(till the next idea) and I fully expect(hope) Ricoh will follow.
I just hope they don't follow the latest P&S offerings by Nikon and Pentax and offer built in projectors and shrunken head modes!
Thank you for the educated insight, Pavel. The author is rather active and respected in Taiwan. I am appalled if he really faked it (or duped?).
...(I just visited his site again) now he added a postscript saying that the photo was photoshopped. That's bad taste.
I'd rather believe that he didn't. But afterall with the popularity and trust afforded to him/ his blog, maybe it'd be better if the postscript was added in the first place. Now this is a deja vu of the April Fool's Day.
Thank you for the correction again. (But if this is a tactic to test the water  , Ricoh'd better rolled up the sleeves quick and hurry the production cos the camera will certainly sell like crazy )
Initially I was fooled, but when I saw the LCD on top of the camera I became suspicious. I've noticed secondary screens seem to be limited to only high end cameras these days, manufacturers are always looking for savings and don't usually include such things.
