I have just spent two days with my Ricoh GXR with Leica M mount and a trusted 15mm Voigtlander lens (making the equivalent of a 22 mm full frame lens). I feel liberated. My faithful Leica M240 is away having its sensor cleaned and I am now having far more fun with the Ricoh than I have recently had with the Leica. The weight and size difference is so, so useful and I am sure I am getting equivalent quality for my tastes than with a 24 mm on the Leica. Indeed for 21 mm on the M240 I need my Leica M240 plus R to M adapter and a 21-35 mm Leica Vario f/3.5 Zoom. Whatever combination I would have chosen the Ricoh has won on grounds of ease of use.
So, I am returning to the thread to say the unfashionable thing that I could now live without the Leica but I would not be parted from the GXR.
So, how well built is the Ricoh? How long will it perform. I would not want the Leica to be sold if the GXR died. So, how many more years can I experience the fun of the GXR?
I am glad this forum has been reincarnated. I followed it when I bought the GXR which was at the time the decision had been made to cease production.
