Hello,

I have recently rediscovered photography beyond just snap shots with friends and family. My background is what I suppose you would call a classically trained artist. I worked with all kind of media throughout my youth and still do when time allows. Shortly after graduating University I found a little camera, the Olympus XA2 and started shooting it on the many outdoor adventures and night life that filled my weekends during that time of my life.

Fast forward 10 years I am a ‘working stiff’ – the XA2 long gone, given to a good friend who traveled to Africa to guide on the Zambezi River, amazing! – I picked up my wife’s digital rebel looking for a creative outlet. I started doing some shooting and learning all the manual setting. As I have an obsessive personality for ‘gear’ I dove in and learned and still am learning as fast as I can devour the information. I stumbled upon the GRD3 on Steve Huff’s website and fell for its pretty little lens. I like the GRD because it reminds me of the XA2, and I wanted a little camera with all the manual setting of the DSLRs – something to learn with and push me. I am already lusting after the GXR system, but I think I’ll sit tight for now. However, I may just have to hunt down an XA.

Currently I take photos of my little one and do some street shooting while out with the family on weekend, or an evening out with co-workers and friends. Outdoor adventures soon to come with the warm weather!

Yes, the XA2, a great little camera....By the way, nice to have you here, Jataz.......Ooh, that GR3, it'll do a heck of a lot more than the XA2 though....amazingly good camera.....Happy photographing! :D

I have an XA too. The shutter button is so light that it became the first camera that my young son was able to depress the shutter button on. It is a bit like a toy camera, but takes pictures like a big camera. You had to keep your wits about you though.

The GRD3 offers the same control and in a similar sized package, so I can see why you like it.

Hi jataz and welcome on the board! I hope you will find this place nice and enjoyable. Please don't hesitate to post your photos, even those from XA2 (if you have some of them scanned). GRDIII is definitely nice and often underestimated camera. Nice to see you found its beauty! ;)

BTW, my photography is currently limited to my kids (2 years and 3 months) too. Not very much street shots as I was used to. I hope this will change when both girls will be older ;) How old is your baby?

Their sorority sisters will come asking: "Will you help us build our modelling portfolios, Uncle Pavel?"

I have a few resent photos from the Rebel and GRDIII up on flicker, I am rather new to that:

Pavel, my girl is 2 years old and moves fast. A challenge in front of the camera when she is awake.

I am impressed with the GRDIII, I purchased it site unseen after looking at a LX5. I am very happy with it. Next up I am going to dive into the world of photoshop and DNG files.

Thank you all for the welcome. Looking forward to learning more about Ricoh.

Hi Jataz, glad you got the GRD III, hoping to enjoy more of your pictures soon. I dig out an old image as a
welcoming gesture for you and everyone who enjoyed coming to this forum as much as I do.
