First time bracketing (with GRD3)

Genster

Well-Known Member
Today I did my first "test" wit bracketing and HDR. For the HDR I downloaded the trial-version of Photomatix (as you can see in the pictures).
I don't think HDR is "my thing" :D
What do you think: should I buy Photomatix?

Hello genster , like the first especially !

I too downloaded the pmatix 4.0 freebie , i used a few times but forgot about, think 'perhaps' to experiment with different exposure value's in different lighting conditions for best results, i can see from searching the web it has great potential after experience .

you renewed my interest so popped out - bracketed and matixed :D

(suppose it would be how much you felt it of value to your photography make it worth while your buying ? )

All the best for now , Kort .

:)

Hey Genster those are a great start. I'm new at this HDR too and from what I've read the sky is the limit on how you work the images. Before you buy this software I would also consider Nik Software HDR Efex. They also have a demo you can try. From what I understand Nik has the most sophisticated algorithms to help you create the different HDR effect you may want. But then You need to be using Aperture, Lightroom or Photoshop to run the plugin.

Thanks for your reply dorfinator! The Nik software looks great but I have only Photoshop Elements en Capture NX.

Amazing pictures! You have a knack for shots with great colour combinations and composition.

They are a great set of shots.. and if these are your first attempts at HDR, then think how good you could become with a little practice. I think HDR is a wonderful process if it is used in a 'subtle' way. I have seen some very strange HDR shots on flickr, which make cities look like alien landscape, with ridiculous colours and quiet weird effects. I personally prefer HDR to bring out the 'whole' of the image, in the same way that human eyes can in reality. Also HDR doesn't suit every situation, so use it selectively.

But once again, these ARE really nice and subtle. It takes lots and lots of tweaking and experimenting. A cloudy sky always looks interesting in HDR. I think I will try some HDR again soon on my GRD3, as I have only attempted it on a Nikon D80 before.
