Firmware updating - FYI

I've finally got the rest of the firmwares updated. My PC which runs Windows 7 just cannot recognise the camera when the USB mode is set to original.

I forgot the trick I learned with the GDRIII. No PC to camera USB connection is ever required. The best and simplest way is simply to:

  1. Download the firmware executable from the Ricoh support site
  2. Format the SD card in the camera, take the card out and put the SD card now called RICOHDCX into a generic card reader connected to the PC
  3. Execute the firmware executable that's been downloaded. That creates a subdirectory on your HDD named something like "Firmware rel ##" and extracts some files to that
  4. Just copy the two files with no file extension (e.g. slaunch3 and slaunch7, claunch3 and claunch8, qrflect3 and qrflect7, ylaunch3 and ylaunch7, glaunch3 and glaunch8)
  5. paste the two files to the root of the SD card.
  6. With the camera turned off, insert the card back into the camera and enter the up arrow+play key combo shown in the firmware manual (also available on the Ricoh support website)
