Faces in stone (with the GXR A12 50)

Blow-in

Three faces lightly carved in to Caithness slabs - they are characters from Neil Gunn novels and adorn his memorial above Dingwall.

This is the main part of the memorial - a large lump of mica schist.

Hi Gab,

Nice to hear from you again and I like your X100 work.

The Neil Gunn monument is on a hill side above Dingwall and Strathpeffer and below Mount Wyvis in the Scottish Highlands (about 20 miles north of Inverness).

Hi Richard, nice captures of some very enigmatic carvings.
You have some interesting artifacts about. Are the carvings more recent?

Thanks Tim. The monument dates from 1987 so is quite recent. Glad it's of interest.

Well done Richard, nice collection! Why did you have to underexpose the shots, might have been a bit more detail and texture, if you didn't?

Thanks Amar. I tend to set the EV compensation to minus 0.3 with the GXR as to my eyes left alone I think it over exposes. In this case the light was quite awkward - a misty day but with some bright sunlight so while I think the received wisdom is to over expose dark objects it didn't look right to me. I did use some flash though on one of them! Richard
