These are from a dune reserve right on the edges of our farm area. Would have liked a large sensor for these... ;)

The last one shows a rare sight - snow on the mountaintops across the border in Jordan. A very cold front hit the region over the weekend and there has been snow further north in the country - but to see this amount down here is something that you see only two or three times in a generation.

Thanks very much folks, much appreciated!
Turns out that this is a very unusual storm indeed - first snow in Cairo in 100 years, thousands of houses still without electricity in Jerusalem. Google "snow in the Mid-east" to see some of the mess...not on the scale of European and North American intensity, but wreaking havoc because it is so rare. We only sampled the east perimeter of it.

I did have a look and it's actually really alarming to see the climate change across the planet. The photos were revealing but I'm waiting to see more of yours....hint..hint...

The weather patterns are becoming more extreme all over the globe. I attended a sailing seminar 6 years ago where the weather guy was telling everybody they would need smaller sails for their boats in the future...my reply was to suggest I'd need a bigger boat instead! Anyway, this is a great series and as I've said before, some clouds really help these types of shots. You are squeezing far more from your PX than Ricoh ever intended....I hope that GR turns-up soon (or may be a GXR A12 28??? possibly more suited to desert sand).

Quester, lovely images. Your little PX is starting to give you a unique signature.
I wonder if its your location combined with the PX that is doing that or your location and light in that part of the world alone.

Either way I love your pics. While I agree the last one is superb, I do very much like them all, #4 is a standout for me.

Thanks everyone - Tim, I believe you are right about the light. A small sensor camera does a lot better in strong light...any pics I happen to take on dull days come out less impressive.
The storm has cleaned the skies, so light is even better, I'm enclosing three more shots for Don. I only managed to see the tail-end of the snow-scapes where it fell in large quantities, but still lovely and unusual for these areas.

yes, I also didn't expect to ever post snow pics! I picked a great week for a vacation....

These are from Jerusalem, which is about 800 m. above sea level. That is the Monastery of the Cross, which is in the middle of the city. On the site where Christian tradition says that the tree that supplied the wood for the Cross grew. Today it belongs to the Greek Orthodox, I believe originally it was a Georgian monastery.

First time in ages that snow has remained on the ground for more than a few days!
