Different type of 'street"

This was difficult photography - possibly should have used a flash - but the guide protecting the painting was very anxious about getting tooo close and I needed to respect his authority so decided against the flash. These bushmen treated the animals ( eland ) as gods as it provided food, clothing and weaponry. Amazing people - wiped out by chicken pox and wars.

That's a very interesting document, thanks for posting!

It's very similar to the neolithic paintings from south Spain and North Africa.

I'm affraid that it's a case of "no photography" area, because it's much more important to preserve the paintings than anything else (and the risk of an "accidental" flash is realy dangerous).

Can you please provide a link about them, or some info about location and date, please :)

And thanks again!

Wow, to think that this artist would not have known his image would live on digitally. He would not of even had dreamt of such a thing we can only surmise.

I once saw some rock art north of my city that they said was 20 - 30,000 years old.

Wise decision about flash Chris! I think it turned to be more than OK without it. There are many paintings like this in caves around the world. It's really fascinating to see such old painting digitized. But do you know what's funny? I doubt our digital files will last as long as this painting ;)

Thanks gents for visit and comments ;) . Rui I tried your URL with respect to rock art but it just bombed out.At this moment in time I am unable to offer any digital info with reference to this type of art history. There is a Scandinavian woman who has done considerable research on rock art using digital photography with a view to more permanent maintenance of the work as much is damaged by weather in general and water seapage specifically. However I do not have her name at the moment but will make enquiries; and then the other thing is that she might not have digitally published as yet. If I find something I will let you know. This photo was taken on a private nature reserve at a place called ' The Cavern' in the Northern Drakensberg, kwaZulu Natal provence here in RSA. This cave is easily accessable owing to tourist interest at the Hotel. Others are not, due to religious/ancestral belief which is determined by local chiefs.
