DetailMan, once again you have me stunned with some of your 'gems' In the first image, the violet and white contrasts so well - especially with the dark background. The shades of violet are astounding, I guess I am both amazed at what nature makes as well as what our eyes see. I think the orange stamens? also finish off the balance of the contrast of colours. -- an excellent capture this one.

The only distraction I can see is in the second image the lower yellow flower has a blown highlight in the middle, probably an unexpected burst of sunlight - it may be difficult to recover the detail. This in no way detracts from your fine images. I hope you display them as they are worthy of printing and taking up of a section of wall :D

Tim,

Thanks again, my friend. I do like to know when folks find some joy in my humble efforts!

Regarding the blown highlights in the "lower yellow flower". I have a set of 3 finalists of this beautiful moment just before sundown. The other 2 shots do not exhibit quite the "blow-out" of this one (which was pretty much beyond repair with the Highlight/Midtone/Shadow tool in PSP9). Ironically, though, it is this one posted that I like the best. The little yellow flower illuminated by and reflecting the sunlight glows like a radiant little angel. A magical moment, indeed! Where such saturation would (and has) in all other cases caused me to "chuck" the shot, all 3 of the shots move my heart so that I decided to live with the "blow-out", as they are great shots otherwise that I love dearly. Here is the runner-up (that has a bit less "blow-out"):

DM,

Excellent set of photo's, the detail in #1 makes it rather special.

I'm begining to think of spring flowers on these dark winter days.

David

It's interesting to me how popular image #1 is. Ironically, I relegated it to the "second-string" ... :p

I play a game with my Photo CD. There are only 600 "gems" that fit on it. I have constantly added/subtracted from it's contents - forcing myself to decide which make the "first-string".

There is something quite unspeakable but nevertheless visceral about flower images. The tiniest differences in angle, in light, etc., make all the difference to my mind's eye. Like a particular musical timbre or a particular melody, certain images somehow speak from these little souls, as if to say, "I am" ... "I have existed since long before your eyes were born to behold me beautiful".

For your further enjoyment at a time when these first-risers of Spring are just now again peeking into the world from eternity, here are some more "meetings with sublime mystery and beauty":
