corrupt files

Hi, I've not found any posting about this but want to check if anyone else has encountered my problem before sending my GR off for repair.

I got the camera in October but didn't do more than look over it until March. So, out of now a hundred shots I have four which are corrupted. Some, usually most, of the image has not - or rather appears not to have recorded and there's just white space. A couple of the photos have diagonal bands of red and blue stripes across one corner.

Same happens with ACR and Capture 1. Strange thing is that when first attempting to open the files the image appears for a split second to be there but is then covered by the 'mask' of white space. Which leads me to think that there may be a fix ...?

Any help would be very gratefully received as I want to use this specific camera for a project I have underway but can't risk the 4% failure rate.

First suggestion is to get another good SD card from a reliable supplier, format it in camera then take some sample images.
There are a dodgy cards about that use substandard memory and cheap nasty clones of genuine cards that are the same.
Some clone cards fake the size of the card as well.
Also I have had genuine quality brands fail on me. Not for a long while but it has happened.

Updating to current firmware also may be another fix. There have been a couple of major releases for the GR.

Was your purchased GR brand new or a used camera?

Thanks for that. I've swopped cards with another camera (that has had no issues) and formatted in camera to see if the GR prefers this one. All my cards are from reputable suppliers and are AFAIK genuine: anyway I'm not aware of any problems with them.

I bought the camera new and it's up to date re. firmware.

Best,

Good News!

It turns out that the file corruption happened when transfering files from one computer to another: the issue was not caused by the camera but by a faulty USB flash drive.

Hurrah!
