The CX1 looks tempting as it probably gives enough manual control for street photography, but is it worth the extra over the R10 which also looks good.
The R10 at £130 (british pounds) looks like a bargain?
Any thoughts on this?
Agree with Marco. CX is definitely better choice than R10. It's much faster and the LCD is really fantastic. I would even consider newer CX2, which is even a bit faster and 10x lens is not that bad as I first thought. Actually, in some aspects it's even better than CX1/R lens.

Hi Pavel,
I was interested to read your comment that the CX2 lens was not as bad as you first thought. Both the CX1 and CX2 are now available off the shelf here in Vienna and I was considering one or the other for back-up for my existing Ricoh. Are the CX2 lens problems being resolved by Ricoh or is it just that the CX2 has some redeeming factors which offset them?
Andy
I am also curious, how well is the CX1/2 jpg considered. Is it good like the GRD I jpg or is it a bit over processed? I do wonder what is considered the best jpging Ricoh after the GRD I?
I am also wondering which CX model to recommend to a friend who has outgrown a Sony DSC-W80. As she says:
"It was a very basic camera. No good zoom, small lens, no manual override, and horrible evening/indoor shots. It took great pictures otherwise, but I kinda outgrew it."
We're in cold and barren Canada, which means an Internet order from the US as there are no Ricoh dealers in Canada and no ready access to waranty service.
I've been pushing the CX1 because I hear that the CX2 lens is not as good ('soft in the corners' is what I've heard). Being an unknown manufacturer in Canada, Ricoh's are a bit of a hard sell here, but I'm trying.
She did try the Canon SX200IS (the one with the "annoying" pop-up flash):
"First and only thought: I HATE THE POP-UP FLASH! I've taken close to 500 shots with this camera, and I cannot get used to it. I've come close to dropping it over a dozen times because of this stupid feature. It is going back sometime next week. Other than that, it's a great camera and perfect for my needs. Shame."
Guys, I took some CX1/2 comparison shots at all focal lengths. All I need to do now is to make some crops and upload the full size files. It's just that cropping them all takes some time and few last days I was busy with GXR
I also heard about somewhat softer CX2 lens and I experienced soft corners with CX2. But the same happened from time to time also with CX1. And for example, my CX1 sample is much softer at 28mm f3.3 than CX2 at 28mm and f3.5 (initial apertures). But it could be just my sample? I will try to post some crops soon.
I also tried the new Canon mentioned earlier in this thread and returned it. The popup flash was ok with me, since I usually shoot indoors hand held with no flash anyway. But the picture quality wasn't as great as the hype. It was an EXPENSIVE camera for so-so pictures, I thought.
I have a hate-love relationship with my CX1. While I love the interface and LCD, I´m still not satisfied with the jpeg output (the only I have!!!). It´s soft and blurred. The only way to get the best of the CX1 pictures is shotting at noon with a blue sky and setting the picture in the hard setting.
