Black Isle turns White

Blow-in

Active Member
We've had strong NE winds bringing snow bearing clouds off the sea. It's not that cold so it probably won't hang around. Some shots from the morning dog walk...all GRD4 as the GXR is away having the flash clip replaced....

Despite this being the landscape thread, I've also attached a couple of macros.

So the old story that the Black Isle was so named because snow does not lie on it is not invariably true.

Lovely atmospheric images with some interesting subtle colours in the one with the dog.

I viewed them at full size, and the one with the field and the one with the dog really have depth to them. Again, I love seeing the various landscapes of your area, very lovely work. Hope you'll be able to celebrate the final end of winter soon.

Archie, Quester,

Thanks to you both for your comments.

Archie, the origin of the name of the Black Isle is obscure but yes its black mass against the white of a snow covered Ben Wyvis is a popular explanation.

Quester, I love your desert shots so it's great to be able to exchange pictures of 'home' via this website while enjoying our hobby using a Ricoh.

Very nice set Richard, we have snow forecast here in Staffs this weekend, so I might be able to get a few snow photos :D
