Yes well, the more things change the more they stay the same 
. So the question is " do you think that your photographic technique has improved in the last three and a half years"?. I like both these photos - I think they are well structured and interesting in their own way. I am glad to see that there is only pedestrian traffic in front of Palmers and not road traffic.

David, after Chris mentioned it, I was trying to figure out why the exif for the b&w shows 2006 and not much earlier in the decade.lensman":1x913dqf said:

It was taken with my good old 17mm Rokkor lens, that I too, remember!

It's very interesting comparing these 3 images. There was a recent series on the box (part of Landward) where a professional photographer set out to take a modern picture of an old shot - it was quite instructive in choice of lens, time of day, light and of course finding the original spot.
Of these 3 I like the B&W best - for a couple of reasons I think. First, the light is great creating interesting shadows while highlighting the obvious subject. The shadow of the girl to the right - brilliantly placed in the frame - cuts through the centre of the motif and points towards the main subject. Secondly, the shooting position is ideal. The pattern in the setts draws the eye in from this angle and the detail of the alley disappears in the shadow and doesn't distract.
So can you create the B&W again with the GXR?
