I've noticed when cropping images in Aperture, that when I set the crop aspect ratio to 3:2, that the maximum crop area still has a section (not sure how many pixels) on one side (in a landscape photo) that is left over and will be cropped out. This seems to indicate that the 3:2 images coming out of the camera are not actually 3:2 (although they may be close). Is this a problem with RAW only? Or Aperture only? I don't notice this problem with my 5DM3 in Aperture.

Yes, this could happen. Digital camera sensors usually have slightly larger sensitive areas than is the manufacturer's specified camera resolution. Therefore, most digital cameras create RAW files with some extra (hidden) pixels, usually in horizontal resolution. Many editors either ignore them or display them only on demand. In most cases, these extra pixels show valid image information. But I already saw some RAWs with empty or corrupted columns of image data. So it's definitely great to have an option to display these extra data. But we should not automatically expect they are always useful.
I guess if Aperture was updated to support Ricoh's DNG files, they would probably fix this issue as well as the red shift issue
